Surrender presented New York and Paris based portrait artist Christina Paik’s ‘MEUFS’ Exhibition on 11th March 2017. Singapore was her first stop of what she dubbed as her ‘Asia Tour Part Deux,’ where the event was held in an in-store informal setting, which comprised of a meet-and-greet to celebrate her ‘MEUFS’ (meaning chicks in French) book launch, photo exhibition and exclusive merchandise drop.
Adhering to Surrender’s new concept and focus on art and lifestyle aspects, Christina Paik’s distinct photographic works were suspended freely from it’s high ceiling, against a clean white interior. Amidst the photographs was a projection screening of behind the scenes footage from her shoots around the world. Over the years, Christina’s intimate portrait shots of unique characters whom she refers to as ‘CP Girls/ CP Boys’, collaborations with renowned brands such as Off-WhiteTM and her utmost passion and talent for shooting in analog has earned her an extremely strong following. Fans rocked up to the event early to cop her book and merchandise – CP Hoodies and T-Shirts in 3 colors each, with the olive and purple T-Shirts exclusive to Surrender only.
As fans stood patiently around for a photo opportunity and chat with Christina, the crowd also enjoyed a hip hop set by local DJ NashD. Notable guests included homegrown talents Tabitha Nauser, Nathan Hartono, Samantha Rui, and YouTube comedian Hirzi Zulkiflie mingling amongst photography enthusiasts and underground fashion youths.
In celebration of the event launch, Christina Paik also hosted an after party at Canvas Club, featuring her friend and DJ, Thomas Bray of Yeti Out, and local acts DJ Rattle, Shigga Shay and the Grizzle Grind Crew. The party lasted till around 3 in the morning with familiar faces like Samantha Rui and Gentle Bones who came through to join in the fun.
Merchandise and the ‘MEUFS’ book will continue to be available in Surrender store and on www.surrenderous.com whilst stocks lasts.
