[NEW IN] GmbH – Pragmatism And Beauty In The Ordinary

March 24, 2017

Surrender introduces Berlin-based GmbH with its Spring/Summer ’17 Collection ‘Girls In Love’.  GmbH is spearheaded by Serhat Isik, a German-Turkish designer and Benjamin Huseby, a Norweigian-Pakistani photographer who has shot for publications such as Dazed, Purple and W, as Creative Directors of what they set out to function as a collective, with many collaborative works involving artists, musicians, DJs who are friends.

GmbH originates from a sense of pragmatism – The core idea of looking for beauty in the everyday ordinary life.  GmbH is the anonymous legal term of any corporation in Germany, equivalent to Inc. or Ltd.  With a distinct industrial design aesthetic, they focus on the gap between high fashion and streetwear as they aim for immaculate quality, high end fabrics and pattern cutting done to perfection.

Sustainability, both ecologically and financially, is essential to GmbH as they work with fabrics from storage and dead stock of factories normally servicing renowned fashion labels in Italy, France and Germany.  Aiming to upcycle pieces and make use of the overproduction in fashion, GmbH founders create quality garments from reclaimed materials and upholstery leatherettes that aren’t bound to seasons.  Keeping to their beliefs in maintaining a sustainable business, even the garment bags used for shipping comprise of small 100% biodegradable ‘Biobiene’ bags and larger recyclable polybags.
