Established in 1994 in Tokyo’s Harajuku district, Neighborhood was born out of founder Shinsuke Takizawa’s deep-rooted fascination with motorcycle subculture. First exposed to American biker culture through 60’s road films, Takizawa began riding and customizing motorbikes himself—a hobby that has had a persistent influence on his design ethos.
Through Neighborhood, Takizawa pays tribute to motorcycle riders and the surrounding culture by reinterpreting its design elements into functional menswear. Neighborhood’s vintage-inspired aesthetic draws from additional influences including London’s punk scene, military dress, and outdoor apparel, culminating in its distinguished supple leather biker jackets, distressed selvedge denim, and utilitarian shirts.
For FW19, Takizawan continues to blend motorcycle and street elements while infusing technical fabrics. Outerwear pieces are made modular for elevated utility while military wear meets Japanese influence. In addition, Neighborhood teams up with Porter on a range of modular bags and accessories.
