The Way Of The Vaselines
August 9th, 2009

vaselines

Probably Glasgow’s best-kept secret until Kurt Cobain said their name in public, The Vaselines made indie pop that was short, sweet and very sharp – bordered with Celtic influences, off-key harmonics and of course, anarchy. Sadly, the band was shortlived (’86-’90), splitting after their first release, Dum-Dum. Still, their legacy’s been sealed with Nirvana’s patronage and Sub Pop’s comps, and witnessed at their recent reunion gigs. Just caught their show at Summersonic Festival, and evidently, the Vaselines magic is still as potent. Here’s a reminder of how they did it back in ’88.

Audio Arts Compactlogy
August 4th, 2009

P1030336

A continuation from Soundlogy 1 comes Compactlogy from Audio Arts. This installment sees more acoustic instrumentation compared to the first and is divided into 3 themes, Colour, Humor and Dream. A recent news piece on Honeyee can be seen here. Great ambient tunes to set you in the right mood for another quiet round of Macallan after a long day. Thanks for the sample disc Naoki.
