John “Hoppy” Hopkins – ’60s counter culture hero, who meticulously photographed and documented London’s cultural underground. As one of the key activists and catalysts of the ’60s scene, Hoppy has rubbed minds with the likes of Allen Ginsberg, photographed everyone from John Lennon to Malcolm X, set up the UFO Club (house band: Pink Floyd), and alongside Barry Miles (Indica owner), founded the revolutionary rag, International Times. His artistic and political statements – in freeing minds, will and senses – continue to resound in today’s cultural climate, while naturally, making for awesome artifacts.
His retrospective, Against Tyranny, is now on at London’s IdeaGeneration Gallery.
